From Hospitality to Development: My Journey to Building Villas in Bali

Hi, I’m Olya — founder of Consulting O.K., a consulting service focused on the hospitality industry.
I’ve spent my entire professional life in tourism and hospitality. It all started over 20 years ago at a hotel front desk — and from there, my journey led me through various roles in hotel operations, tourism management, marketing, and eventually, business ownership.
By 2014, I was managing one of the largest wellness resorts in Ukraine — Derenivska Kupil.
As Managing Director, I was involved in the project from the construction stage and oversaw the full preparation for opening the facilities, which included a 130-room hotel, wellness center, spa, and apartment complex (44 apartments). I led the development of service standards, team structuring and training, pricing strategies, and the coordination of marketing and operational efforts — ensuring everything was ready for a smooth launch and sustainable daily operations.
In 2019, I launched Consulting O.K., helping hotels improve service quality, streamline operations, and boost profitability. I provided pre-opening support, staff training, audits, and strategic planning for clients.
Then in 2022, everything changed — I moved to Bali. Together with my husband, Santiago, we co-founded Serena Villas Uluwatu, a boutique villa development in one of the island’s most sought-after locations. Santiago leads the architectural vision and development, while I oversee the business side of the project — from brand development and marketing to preparing for the opening and managing post-launch operations.
This blog is where I’ll share our journey — the lessons, the challenges, and the honest behind-the-scenes of building and launching a villa project in Bali. I’ll also be sharing my experience in hospitality — insights, tools, and real-life practices that I believe can be useful to others working in the industry or dreaming of entering it.
